I posted an article about the X.V11R4 bugs couple days ago regarding the failure of the software to create xdm directory during 'make install'. I sent the report to bugs@expo.lcs.mit.edu and I got the two following replies back: >Received: from me.utoronto.ca by image.me.utoronto.ca with SMTP id 4890; Wed, 10 Jan 90 18:25:10 EST >Received: from expo.lcs.mit.edu by me.utoronto.ca with SMTP id 19848; Wed, 10 Jan 90 18:24:26 EST >Received: by expo.lcs.mit.edu; Wed, 10 Jan 90 18:22:27 EST >From: bugs@expo.lcs.mit.edu (Bug Reports) >Message-Id: <9001102322.AA11585@expo.lcs.mit.edu> >To: Philip Cheng AWN <philip@me.utoronto.ca> >Subject: xdm config files >In-Reply-To: Your message of Mon, 08 Jan 90 12:29:32 EST. ><90Jan8.122942est.19325@me.utoronto.ca> >Date: Wed, 10 Jan 90 18:22:25 EST > >You need to enable InstallXdmConfig to get these files installed. >But there's a bug in the installation procedure anyway, you can >simply copy them by hand from clients/xdm/config. > > > >Received: from me.utoronto.ca by image.me.utoronto.ca with SMTP id 4890; Wed, 10 Jan 90 21:05:05 EST >Received: from neat.cs.toronto.edu by me.utoronto.ca with SMTP id 19888; Wed, 10 Jan 90 21:04:33 EST >Received: by neat.cs.toronto.edu id 2376; Wed, 10 Jan 90 21:03:56 EST >Path: jarvis.csri.toronto.edu!mailrus!umich!samsung!think!snorkelwacker!bloom-beacon!EXPO.LCS.MIT.EDU!rws >From: rws@EXPO.LCS.MIT.EDU (Bob Scheifler) >Newsgroups: comp.windows.x >To: ut.software.x-windows@cs.toronto.edu, philip@me.toronto.edu >Subject: Re: /usr/lib/X11/xdm >Message-ID: <9001101809.AA03215@expire.lcs.mit.edu> >Date: Wed, 10 Jan 90 13:08:57 EST >References: <9001101751.AA04701@backup> >Sender: Mark Moraes <moraes@cs.toronto.edu> >Fake-Sender: daemon@athena.mit.edu (Mr Background) >Organization: The Internet >Lines: 8 > > >Where should the contents of /usr/lib/X11/xdm come from? > >You can just install them by hand, or set your configuration to: > >#define InstallXdmConfig YES > >Then remake the xdm Makefile and do a "make install" there. Hope it will help those people who try to install X.V11R4. I got it working on a SUN SPARCstation 1 and a VAXstation II/GPX without any problem. philip@image.me.utoronto.ca
