From: galaxy::malik (Karl Malik ZK1-1/D42 ) Subj; miscellaneous comments Has anyone heard the new Kurzweil digital keyboard? The reviews for it are fantastic - its said that its imitation of a grand piano is INDISTINGUISHABLE from the real thing. That's quite a claim. Does anyone have first-hand experience with it? I sent an article to net.audio and didn't get much of a response. Are there any multi-track recording people (especially synthesists) out there that can give me some tips on setting up an inexpensive 8-track studio? I've forgotten who said this, but I've always like the quote - "Wagner is the cherry on the dung-hill of Romanticism". When's Kraftwerk going to put out a new album? Have they put out anything (maybe in Germany?) since Computer Love? I reiterate; dividing this newsgroup into net.music.classical and net.music.rock is terrible. Why encourage such a ghetto-mentality? Best wishes, Karl Malik ...decvax!decwrl!rhea!star!malik

Regarding Karl Malik's request for information on setting up an inexpensive 8-track recording studio for electronic music production, an individual must electronic composer are rewarding. Probably the only "budget" 8-track tape recorders available are made by FOSTEX (1/4" tape) and TEAC/TASCAM (using 1/2" tape). My expieriences with ct have read a couple of detrimental the final mix master could well exceed $3,500 if the equipment is purchased new. This may or may not be considered inexpensive. Kraftwerk were in the process of going on tour in England in the spring of 1983 to promote their new album "Techno-Pop", however the tour was canceled due to "problems" with the album. A 12-inch EP of their new song "Tour De France" is available in the U.S. and as a Kraftwerk fan I am very it appears to be an interesting exploration in the use of digital sampling techniques, featuring heavy breathing, harp glissandos and the changing of bicycle gears all set to a dance beat!!!! You Kate Bush fanatics might be interested in knowing (if you already didn't) that she is the cover story in this month's Keyboard magazine (July '85); check for it in music stores. - Karl

1) >you know that both Stravinsky and Kate Bush change time signatures
>very often, sometimes every measure?).
Only Stravinsky did that nearly 70 years ago.
2) Rich Rosen recently made some sarcastic remarks about judging music
by how the performer looks. Well, isn't pop/rock really more theater
than it is pure music?
There is a reason why most pop/rock stars do not look like CPAs.
Since their 'image' is part of the performance, that is as valid
as area to express one's taste as any other.
No?
