#N:harpo:5700001:000:667 harpo!mmp Jun 15 10:21:00 1982 I beg to differ on the generalization that all American-made cars are no good. I have a 1980 Plymouth Horizon that I've had for just over two years with 40k miles on it. The only problem I EVER had that I wasn't responsible for was a fan belt that broke. My car handles well, even in winter conditions, it has LOTS of room inside, and I can accelerate as fast as any average person (of course, I don't claim to be able to beat a V8...). I've driven it all over the country in all kinds of conditions. I LIKE my American-made car, and the price I paid for it was much more reasonable than any foreign equivalent. The Horizon is not made by Isuzu or Mitsibushi. The Opel is. It's a pretty interesting story. The Opel (designed by Adam Opel) was originally from Germany(?), well Europe. It was imported by Buick. It seems that Opel sold the design to GM where it became the Chevette. Isuzu of Japan got the "Opel" production rights and Buick began importing from them. So, we have a German design manufactured in Japan, imported by the U.S. Or, you can just buy a Chevette. (I'm only 95% sure this is a true story) Mike Henry

No, Omni's and Horizon's are made in Belvidere, Illinois.

Good grief! The Chevette is a German design? I remember all those commercials with stars and stripes telling me how "The Yanks designed it - the Yanks refined it" and now you're telling me it's NOT an American design? Can anyone else confirm or deny this? Mark
