Does anyone have a strong feeling (or even hard evidence!) for how widespread the 4096 virus is? We have seen very few first-hand reports, but there are rumors, from the direction of Israel in particular, that it is beginning to become a significant problem in some places. Does anyone know any more than I do on this subject? DC

Does anyone know any >more than I do on this subject? DC The 4096 is very widespread at present in Israel (where it is more commonly known as the "Frodo" or "100 Years" virus). It was disco- vered in this country about a year ago. (Judging from the fact that one of its many nicknames is "IDF", it was presumably first discovered in the Israel Defense Forces.) As many readers of VIRUS-L know, it is a very sophisticated virus. A description of it was given in the May issue of the Virus Bulletin (published in the UK). Y.
