[net.auto] NJ RADAR SPEED ENFORCEMENT

rgh (08/20/82)

I heard recently on the evening news that because N.J. is likely to lose
about $10M in Fed highway dollars the 55 mph limit would be more strictly
enforced. The primary method would be the ubiquitous radar and the
attendant Smokey Bear. One of these types said that they had the means
to DEFEAT radar detectors by "interrupting" the signal. I do not know
whether he meant his emanating signal or somehow interfering with the
operation of the detector. My question is directed toward those of you
out there that are knowledgeable in such things as radar and detectors:
Can the detectors be made unuseable by any method that would be in the
hands of a police person? I am wondering if this spokesperson is being
truthful or is just firing off a round of Psy war tactics.

Please respond to me by mail at mhuxa!rgh and I will collate whatever
responses I receive and post them to the net.
