[net.auto] Engine for Volvo 142

greg (09/21/82)

I have a 1974 Volvo sedan (a 142 (2-door)) that I bought 3rd hand
for $1300 (last july)..The car had 86,000 miles on it when I bought
it and now has 91,000 miles. Shortly after I bought it (a few hours)
I was informed by the woman I bought it from (A friend of a friend)
that the engine block had cracked and been welded back together
before she bought itI (2 years ago)...and that she had ALSO cracked
the block (how do you crack the block in a 4 cyl car without being
REALLY careless!?!?) and had it welded back together. Needless to say
I was a bit disappointed at this point. The engine runs well however
and doesnt burn any oil (no more than is normal for a 8 year
old car)...My question is: Has anyone else had experience with
welded blocks (esp on small engines?) (I've heard you just cant
weld a block - that it wont hold)...Should I start looking for a
new engine (Where can I get a good rebuilt/slightly used B20[E-F]
engine?)? Should I drive it until it explodes?
		Thanks in advance,
