As a pilot and somewhat zippy driver, I coludn't agree more with Rick Kiessing's article. I have a 1982 Ford Escort, with Stick shift and no power assisted steering, just the regular steering. This makes for quite fun driving, and corners can be taken at speed. The seatbelts in the car are the sort that allow slack in the shoulder strap. I always eliminate any slack, since the snug fit is essential to pin me in when cornering hard or in the event of an accident. The thought of a collision with slack in the shoulder strap makes me wonder how much extra damage would be caused. The body must lurch forward and be restrained with a snap. The way I've seem @ (oops) seen some people wear seatbelts make me think they would be better off without them at all!
