The kindest thing a person can do for their new car (and their pocketbook) is to replace the 195 degree thermostat with a cooler one (180 or even 165 degree). This will prolong the life of the valves and valve guides considerably. My wife's uncle works for the city and they used to have to pull the heads for a valve job every 30K miles. Now they change the thermostat as soon as they get a new car and have eliminated the problem. This will affect the emissions a little, but not much. Kit Kimes Western Electric Co.
