Recently I recieved an information bulletin from Cincinnatti Microwave regarding a new source of of X and K band signals. The new sources are two "superheterodyne" radar detectors distributed by Radio Shack and Speed-O-Matic,inc.: Dear Escort Owner, You may be ocasionally expieriencing a new type of alert from your ESCORT when there doesn't seem to be a transmitting source nearby. The alert is initially X band("beep"), erratically switching between X band and K band ("brap") as the signal gets stronger. These signals may even cause the ESCORT meter to register full scale. What causes these alerts? .... Inconsiderate radar detectors. After which the information bulletin goes on to explain why the Radio shack and Speedo Matic unit behave as they do.

What's more, I let the guy get in FRONT of me, and I still picked him up a block and a half away, just from the "bouncing" of the radar his detector was sending out. Christ, that sort of cruddy product shouldn't even be allowed on the market! --Dave Curry pur-ee!davy
