#R:cca:-310900:uiucdcs:7700002:000:459 uiucdcs!kos Oct 21 16:21:00 1982 I used to use about a 50/50 mix of unleaded premium and regular. It worked just fine. I don't know what the actual resulting octane number was, but it's well known that it is really higher than you would figure by averaging the two numbers. Supposedly the lead in the regular gas boosts the octane of the unleaded, and so you wind up with a gain of about 2 or 3 points over the unleaded's original octane. Does anybody know any ball-park numbers on this?

A certain chemist friend of mine reccommends the addition of 1 to 2 pints Toluene or Xylene to a full tank of gas to solve a low octane problem. He does this regularly.
