Groan! - after having my car tuned and the carb rebuilt I now find that if I attempt to accelerate moderately (not gunning it) when I am doing about 15 - 20 mph it feels like stepping on mashed potatoes. It feels as though there is a decrease in engine power and that it will soon stall (which it has done on turns). The typical case is that I am coasting towards a red light when it changes and I start to accelerate. It doesn't happen at highway speeds nor does it appear when the car is cold. Bringing it back to the shop, the guy spent about an hour looking at it and finally replaced a plunger in the carburator. It seemed better after that but that might have been intimidation under pressure. It still has the problem - any guesses. Not really knowing anything about such matters, my guess was that the idle adjustment might be responsible. It seems that when I back into my driveway, I now need to press down on the accelerator (its a slight incline) where before this was unnecessary. Oh yeah, its a 79 Malibu with the small 6 cyl engine.
