[net.music] A Survey of your 10 Favorite Albums

r032@sphinx.UChicago.UUCP ( Sam Rebelsky) (08/13/85)

You've all seen the books like:

"The 100 All Time Greatest Albums Ever: As Chosen By Assorted
	Friends of Dave Marsh"
  or

"The Rolling Stone Guide to the only records worth owning."

Well, since net users obviously have much better taste than the
average critic, I thought it would be fun to try and compile a
net.music top n pop/rock album list. Hopefully, everyone who
regularly reads net.music (and even some who don't) will
contribute a list of his/her/its ten favourite albums, and we'll
have a list of possibly interesting albums, and perhaps it
will somehow stimulate new (non KB :-) topics of discussion.

RESTRICTIONS (how can it be interesting without restrictions?)
        0) MAIL your list to me.
	1) No repeat lists (this means that you can't submit
more than one top ten list).
	2) You cannot include the same album more than once
(for example, Doug Alan cannot choose The Dreaming
as his favourite, 2nd favourite, etc album)
	3) Only ten albums/list.
	4) All lists must be received by Sept. 18th, 1985. I will
	   post results soon thereafter.
	5) Multiple albums count as one album (this is not some silly
	   record club)
	6) Compilation albums are OK.
        7) You can vote for things that were only released on
tape (for example, The NY Singles Scene on ROIR Tapes)
	8) You can vote for bootleg ALBUMS, but not tapes.
	9) If you want to, include a SHORT review of some of your
top ten albums, and I'll compile these into a separate
list that I will MAIL to people who request it (unless
there are enough requests to warrent a posting).

I will attempt to come up with some scheme for converting the rankings
within the individual top ten lists into a point scheme for creating
a top n list (where n is <= the number of albums that get any votes
at all). If you want to suggest a point scheme, feel free to do so.

Warning: I will be in Boston (or elsewhere) from Aug 28 to Sept 14, and
will not be able to answer any questions regarding the test during
  that period.

This won't be fun/interesting unless EVERYONE contributes a list, so
do so, even if you've never sent any replies/posted any articles
before. If you don't vote, only the Kate Bush fans will |-).
