Thanks to the people who replied to my request for advice on where to mount a fire extinguisher in a sub-compact 2 door hatch-back (specifically R5). No one claimed to hove THE answer, but the most common recommendation was the right front kick-pannel beside the navigator's feet (vertically oriented). One person claims that this installation has worked well in 3 different cars he tried it in. I am also told it works well in pick-ups. Another suggestion was: in front of the rear seat if 2-door, in front of front seat if 4 door. I thought about this, but putting the extinguisher in fornt of the rear seat will reneder it inaccessible when the rear seat is folded (if it does not prevent folding - which is another matter). I will be taking the right front kick pannel suggestion. In my case it looks like it will fit, it can be securely mounted, and is quickly accessibly to both navigator and driver. Advice from a volunteer fireman: carry a 2-3 lb. dry chemical extinguisher, AND an insulated glove (you might have to move something that is hot). I hadn't though about the glove before, I will use an aluminised oven mitt (readily available, cheap, heat and fire resistent). Hoping you have safe motoring ralph hill
