Watkins Glen race track in Watkins Glen, New York was sold last weekend
at a public auction on the steps of the Schuyler County courthouse. The
track was sold to the bank which had previously made loans to the Grand
Prix Corporation. The first bid was for $100,000 with the bank taking it
on the second bid (apparently they want to pay off the local people who had
been taken in by the Grand Prix Corp.). When asked what plans they had for
the track they would only comment that they had five or so interested parties.
When the name Roger Penske was brought up the bank official only smiled and
said he assumed Penske was still interested.
