I had a similar problem with my 81 Accord a couple of times this Winter, always after sitting in the cold for a few hours. The car started ok, but had no power and would keep moving forward (slowly!) only in 1st or 2nd gear with almost full throttle. After warmup of a few miles the problem would completely disappear. The problem seemed to be helped after I added a can of Heet to the gas. I think there was an ice restriction to the gas flow after standing which eventually melted, but the problem was so seldom I really couldn't tell if it was cured of the weather was warmer. I. J. I also had a problem with a cold 81 Accord this Winter. While cold it would shudder badly and not develop much power. As this is the type of problem that could only be reproduced at a dealer by leaving the car overnight, I didn't have it checked. Apparently it is not unique to me. I, too, have been wondering if I was the only person to experience 1) Rough running when starting a cold engine in cold (<50 F) weather, and 2) Rough running when starting a warm to hot engine in hot weather. I have had a Civic 4 door w/ 1500 cc engine for over a year, and the car shows both of the above. Neither has been a real problem, just a two minute annoyance. Other than these problems the car runs really GREAT. When the hot weather problem crops up, I can sit at a light and watch the rpm dip on the tach; once or twice it dies, but I have no problem restarting. In cold weather, when the car is first started, rpm hovers about 2k, then (after ~ 1 min.) kicks up to ~3k, the normal fast idle. This is never a problem, since I always have to clean off windows, etc, in the winter so by the time I'm done the car is warm. Honda helped me... kevin J Glass (...zeppo!kjg)
