[net.auto] A safe VW..

evans (11/16/82)

I've seen one too many accidents and was wondering if
anyone out there has had any experience with such things as
*real* shoulder harnesses, roll cages, etc. for small Rabbit-like
objects. What sort of costs are involved?
				thanks in advance

Yes, roll cages are available for most any small sporty car including VW
Rabbit and Scirocco. All you need is connections into the racing world
and since I am here at BTL Murray Hill, I will be happy to get some info to
you. From the smae sources you may find various types of seat belts and
while those used in racing are best I think you may find them a little
cumbersome for average car use. I'll be glad to show you a typical race
car belt system.
For general interest periodicals like Auto Week can provide sources
for roll cages and other racing equipment. Another big help is Auto World
in Scranton, Pa for those on the east coast. The west coast is of course
loaded with such places.

Another thought is to have a cage custom built for your car and the experts
in welding for this area are the people at Raceweld in Lebanon NJ. Bill
Mataka is the guy who does the work and may seem a bit unusual and maybe
a little difficult at first but I have all my race car welding done there
because the man is the best. Their number is (201) 236-6533.

There must be someone else out there in netland who is into the showroom
stock racing class who might no of a good rollcage source so let us know.
In the meantime I'll look around and contact you directly.
