[net.auto] 62 mph, or 100 km/h

prgclb (12/01/82)

For those Americans who find 55 mph a bit slow,
go to Canada. The speed limit there is 100 km/h,
or about 62 mph. By the way, how do you Canadian
netnews readers feel about your 100 km/h speed
limit, and what are your comments on our rather
spirited 55 mph debate?

I am a pretty avid speeder. I think speed limits on interstate
highways are stupid.

I often see people with "55 saves lives" and other such ridiculous
slogans stuck on their bumpers. I've never seen believable evidence.

Would someone do us all a favor and post some real live facts about the
issues? Here's what I have in mind:

Differences in economy, driving 50/60/70/80 mph for
	different kinds of cars.

Figures which show how many accidents are attributed to
driving at high speed as opposed to driving while drunk
or driving while sleepy or driving while senile or
	driving in poor weather.

I want unbiased evidence. I don't ask the tobacco lobby for to tell me
whether smoking is hazardous to my health, I don't ask the Moral
Majority to tell me whether Charlie's Angels is ok to watch, I don't
want some biased zealot telling me that driving over (or under) 55 is
wrong. (I stated my OPINION at the top. I am not asking for opinion
here, I am asking for FACTS.)

If you got facts, you might as well post 'em. I don't think
there'll be many replies. Don't just rehash an opinion.
