[comp.mail.mush] Anybody porting Mush to X?

From article <13584@pasteur.Berkeley.EDU>, by dheller@cory.Berkeley.EDU (Dan Heller):

I think I saw a question in this vein before, but never saw any replies
so I'll try again . . .

Has anyone out there ported the mushtool interface to X Window?

Is anyone out there in the process of porting the mushtool interface
to X Window?

Is anyone out there planning to port the mushtool interface to X window in
the near future?

Has anyone out there scoped the tasks involved in porting the mushtool
interface to X Window?

I've been planning to begin such a port later this year but before I do I'd
like to communicate with anyone who has performed, is in the process of
performing, or anticipates performing such a port.

I'd also like to hear suggestions from anyone who has ideas regarding
how an Xmush interface should look. Specifically:

	1. What do you like about the current Suntool interface that you
	   wouldn't want to change?

	2. What do you dislike about the current Suntool interface and how
	   would you improve it?

	3. What additional bells & whistles would you like to see in an
	   Xmush interface?

My purely personal opinion is that porting mushtool to X is a much better
use of time than porting mushtool to Sunview, mainly because a wider
community of users will be able to use the X interface than the Sunview
interface.

I guess this is about the place where I need to say that

	1. The opinions expressed here are mine alone and do not
necessarily represent the opinions of Apollo Computer Inc.,
The Hewlett-Packard Company, or anyone other than myself.

	2. I am planning on doing the X implementation on my own time
and placing the result in the hands of the Mush user community
by whatever means is appropriate, whether that be a patch to a
Mush base version or (if Dan and Bart are agreeable) a merger
a new version of Mush with #ifdef's for the X interface similar
to way the current Suntool interface is distributed.

	3. If somebody else is doing this already, I really don't need the
	   work.

Now that I've opened up this can of worms, I'm looking forward to hearing
from all of you.

Regards,

Carl
