I've just had it. The suggestion that the size of a car has something to do with its performance at high speed is hogwash. Cars can be designed to operate well at high speeds no matter what their size. (They can also be turkeys, no matter what their size.) I have a 1979 VW that accelerates briskly and goes as fast as you would typically want, 100MPH. Even at such high speeds, it is stable and handles well. I have driven a Ford LTD (a big car) that felt unsafe at 60MPH. My other car, a Porsche 911SC, is also small (169 inch length). It handles well at its top speed, 140MPH. I am sure anyone can name lots of small cars that are unsafe at high speed. I can name lots of small cars that are safe. I can name lots of large cars that are safe and others that aren't. Gee, maybe size isn't the determining factor after all! If you want a large car to carry large loads, get one. If you don't need to carry four or five people comfortably, and want better economy, get a smaller car. If you want a car that performs well at high speeds, you can find small cars as well as large one to satisfy your requirements. Walt Barnes .../ihuxn/wwb

Your VW what? Comparing a Scirocco and a Chevette is not what I had in mind. The 'econobox' was the target!
