How does one know if the fuel filter is still good or not?

How do you tell if the fuel filter is still good? Heck, they're cheap. Change it anyway. Seriously, it's hard to tell. If it has a clear palstic shell, compare it with a new one, and if the filter element is significantly darker, change it. --Berry Kercheval
