A brief followup on my facts article, and the recent article by utzoo!laura. The ~$20 Billion a year cost of drunk driving accidents in the U.S. does NOT include the REAL costs as discussion by laura. It is only property damage!! I agree with laura, let's start talking REAL costs. I know they are hard to calculate, but take a look at this $20 billion (plus) figure, and mulitply it by at LEAST 10. Now, think carefully. You, each and every one of you, are paying your share of that. Think hard. The federal aviation safety people in Canada (conservatively) estimate the cost of a death in an light aircraft accident at $200,000+. Assume this number applies to auto deaths (I see no reason why it doesn't) and multiply it by the 90 deaths a day in the U.S. that result from drunk drivering accidents. Only $18 million a day. Nothing to worry about, eh?
