[comp.soft-sys.andrew] messages bug

dav@NORTHSTAR.DARTMOUTH.EDU (William David Haas) (10/19/89)

I found a bug with enclosures in messages. Messages seems to have trouble with
two enclosures in the same message. It only recognizes the first one. This
message has two enclosures. If you get both of them let me know I will try to
track down the problem here.

NOTE: the recieved message has both enclosures in it, the problem is messages
doesn't prompt for saving of both enclosures.

P.S. Yes, I forgot to add the enclosures in my last message, opps.

---- Enclosure ----
This is the first enclosure.

---- Enclosure ----
This is the second enclosure.

Interesting. Actually, we never even tried to define the semantics for
multiple enclosures. The draft RFC we never published that described
enclosures never even touched on the issue. The bottom line: it never
occurred to me (as the person who conceived and implemented the
enclosure feature) that multiple enclosures were a possibility, so I'm
not in the least surprised that they don't work... -- Nathaniel

I'm not sure what to make of your message with enclosures.

1. The message I received contained the following in the visible body
of the message:

---- Enclosure ----
This is the first enclosure.

---- Enclosure ----

---- Enclosure ----
This is the second enclosure.

---- Enclosure ----

This is the first time I've ever seen the enclosures in the message
window.

2. I was prompted for action on an enclosure. I saved it to a file.
It was the text "This is the first enclosure."

I was not prompted for action on any other enclosures.

3. Actually, the first time I took action on the enclosure, I selected
the "pipe through a command" option. I specified "page" as the command.

Messages core dumped.
