Net.auto now contains a large volume of material in distinctly different categories. I suggest that it may be appropriate to consider a functional division of this group to ease the information overload problem. I see 3 distinct categories: 1) Political/legal issues related to automobiles (gas taxes, drunk drivers, speed limits, headlights etc.). This could become net.auto.legal, for example. 2) Auto racing, high performance cars, "sports" car debates, etc. I lump these because they are usually of interest to a common set of people and not particularly of interest those who look at a car as a convenient way to get from one place to another. Net.auto.race has been suggested for this, perhaps net.auto.sport or net.sport.auto would also do. 3) Everything else (new model reviews, repair and recall information, classified adds, etc.) It looks to me at least like there is plenty of volume in each category to justify a newsgroup. Please don't debate this on the net. I am willing to collect mail comments on this and forward them to the appropriate network guru (provided that he/she/it identifies it/her/himself to consider whether or not to do this.
