I built the release on an SS2 running 4.1.1 a few days ago with cc -O4 /usr/lib/libm.il, and it's been working like a champ, modulo the same old problem with the ness stuff. Be prepared to have lots of swap -- O4 feeds the code through iropt, which grows pretty big. 30 meg of swap wasn't enough to compile setup.c under the console tree -- I had to add another 20. -- -- 336996351123355369963511235117*47*8*47*8*7471

I'm glad things are generally working for you. Could you specify what about Ness isn't working? On the Sun4's I've been able to use for testing purposes Ness has built cleanly.
