It's probably not the ideal place, although "info-andrew" is low enough
volume that the occasional "please add me to the list" request sent to
the list itself probably isn't a big problem.

The proper protocol for getting added to most, if not all, lists, is to
send to "<listname>-request", on the same machine as the address for the
list; e.g., in the case of "info-andrew", send the request to
"info-andrew-request@andrew.cmu.edu".

If a request is sent to a list, it may or may not be read by the folks
who maintain the list, but it *will* be sent to everybody on the list
(unless the list is moderated), and most of them aren't in any position
to respond to the request....
