Now that nsb has raised the issue, is there any value in keeping
be1be2 and some of the other "conversion" utilities around, since
the "old" formats are now effectively history?

For that matter, how about making all of these a separate MK_foo target
group in the Imakefiles, so that they don't get built with the rest
of the stuff unless you ask for it?
