I have come to rely heavily on the fact that excerpt body does not clear out the previous message. How else could I excerpt from two messages to the message I am composing, or to insert the excerpt in the middle of the message? -wdc

Well, I was assuming that the behavior, if modified, would only be modified in the case where the message had already been sent. In other words, if the message is just sitting around after a successful delivery, and then you do an excerpt (or excerpt all), perhaps it would make sense to clear it out first. I agree that if it hasn't been delivered yet, this would be a very dumb thing to do; I'm also not sure if the differential behavior would be more trouble & confusion than it is worth....

That's what I use, and I'm happy as a clam. [An Andrew ToolKit view (a footnote) was included here, but could not be displayed.] I always keep blind carbon copies of all the mail I send out, so if I ever need to reuse the text of a message, I can always do a Restore Draft from my copies folder. Or if you know ahead of time you'll be modifying the message after you send it, you can click on Will Clear in the sendmessage window before you send it.
