There are four programs that I use a great deal: search, ls, fgrep, and move. These programs were apparently written using MetaWare's Pascal (because that's the copyright in the code). I have upgraded my system to a 386/25 clone by swapping motherboards, and these four programs all crash the system. A friend of mine, using a different clone, is running interactive UNIX, and when these programs are run (under DOS), they lock up his machine too. (by lock up, I mean that reset or power cycling is required). The same programs run on the Dell 386 portable, the Everex step 386/25, and the Compaq 386/25. The crashing appears to be timing related, since the programs run under codeview's execute mode do eventually function. The problem occurs with both Phoenix and AMI bios. Has anyone had similar problems with 386 systems? Are there maybe new versions of these programs that don't have these problems? Any thoughts at all? I will gladly provide copies to anyone who wishes to investigate. Thanks in advance kdq -- Kevin D. Quitt Manager, Software Development DeMott Electronics Co.
