[alt.msdos.programmer] Programming Function Keys on AST-286 - Help!

flak@mcgp1.UUCP (Dan Flak) (03/20/90)

I don't do DOS other than to use Wordperfect, and an occasional
Lotus Spreadsheet.

I use my AST-286 as a terminal emulator using Procomm. One of my
unix applications requires the use of certain escape codes which
I'd like to assign to function keys.

The only thing I can find in the "Users Reference" or "Operating
System" manuals is that function keys exist, they are programmed
by the "applications software" and how to use some of them with
edlin and other commands.

I called the vendor who sold me the computer and he said that
\dos\ansi.sys is the file that determines the function keys.

I have found that ansi.sys is neither executable nor ascii.

Ideally, I would like to do this in a Procomm setup file, but I
haven't found out how, if it's possible at all. If it can't be
done with Procomm, then I'll need a ".bat" file to program the F3
and F4 keys before invoking procomm, and switch them back when I
"exit" Procomm.

Please E-mail response. Thanks in advance.
