[alt.msdos.programmer] DOS record locking and Novell

db@tc.fluke.COM (Dan Banay) (03/28/90)

I have some questions regarding the DOS locking functions and how they
interact with the Novell network:

* What is the role of SHARE.EXE under Netware? It is required?

* Are there any restrictions on the use of the DOS locking functions?
Specifically, what happens if you close a file before unlocking it?
Will it remain locked for the other users? Can a file be opened
when it is locked by another user?

* How do you go about making a file sharable?

Sample code with instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Please post to the net, as I'm sure others would be interested in the
answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

It is SHARE which actually implements the DOS record locking calls. If you
try to call them without SHARE loaded, you will get an error return saying
invalid function code.
