[alt.msdos.programmer] MS Word and Mailing Labels

boerio@orchestra.ecn.purdue.edu (Jeff Boerio) (08/09/90)

I am trying to use Microsoft Word Version 5.0 to print out mailing labels
on a laser printer. The sheets that I have for this have three columns,
each 2.875" x 1" (paper size is 8.5" x 11").  I am trying to do this by
using Microsoft's Print Merge Printer feature.

I follwed the instructions given in the Word manual, but this does not
solve the problem correctly. It will print the labels in three columns,
but the problem that remains is that Word doesn't know anything about the
page. It prints label after label, with disregard to the margins of the
labels.

Does anyone out there know how I can successfully tell Word that I have 33
equally sized labels on one page, and that it should print the labels
correctly?

Thanks in advnace.

I've been using Microsoft Word 5.0 to produce mailing labels for a newsletter.
The labels are made by Avery and the instruction sheet provided the following
specs:
	/FORMAT DIVISION MARGINS:
		Top = .58"; Bottom = .42"; Left = .45"; Right = .35"
	/FORMAT DIVISION LAYOUT:
		Columns = 3; Space between = .38"
I've been printing these out on an Apple LaserWriter II without incident.
I have not, however, been using the print merge facility; I just lay 'em out.

Hope this helps!

I submitted a response yesterday, but forgot two important points:
	1) The typeface should be Times Roman 12 pt.
	2) (As another respondant points out) there should be six lines
	   of data per entry (e.g. three lines for the name, address, and
	   city, followed by three blank lines.)

Again, best of luck,
