(This message is posted for a colleague. Please reply to him) After a prolonged battle between the HW team (cheering for Intel Multibus II with it's superfast MPC and transport communications over the backplane) and us (cheering for VxWorks and VMEbus for attractive development environment possibilities), the final score was: Multibus II 1 VxWorks/VME nil. MB II will now form the basis for current and future realtime developments. The function of our system is to provide data collection via X.25 interface, format conversion, and later data transmission on ISDN using OSI layered communications model on the B channel. The current proposed architecture for the target is as follows: iSBC 386/258 to control initial configuration and booting, and act as disk server to UNIX and RMX iSBC 386/116 running UNIX Sys V/386, to act as interface to system, and X.25 and ISDN clients (i.e. the application) iSBC 386/MIX developement for ISDN server iSBC 186/410 for X.25 server For the development system, the proposal is to use an Intel System 520 development rack, with TCP/IP interface provided by Wollongong WIN/TCP, networked to our Sun/3 environment. What are the possibilities for development infrastructure and tools in such a configuration (e.g. cross compilers, remote symbolic debugging)? Has anyone got experience in a similar environment? Any ideas for an alternative system architecture? Thanks in advance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ian O'Gorman UUCP: {uunet, decvax, ukc}!mcvax!cernvax!hslrswi!ogorman Tel: +41 31 631671 SMail: Hasler AG, Dept 85K1, Belpstrasse 20, CH-30007 Bern ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- End Included Message -----
