[comp.realtime] advice sought re: hardware for parallel realtime systems development

scotth@tekcrl.LABS.TEK.COM (Scott R. Herzinger) (07/07/89)

My group is charged with the development of an environment for embedded systems
programming. In our plans is a program investigating issues in debugging of
systems with multiple processors. VxWorks and 68020 VMEbus single-board
computers are part of the strategy for some single- and multi-processor
prototype target systems.

Given that we are selecting from 68020 VMEbus systems on which Wind River
Systems supports VxWorks, does anyone have any advice for hardware acquisition
that would help me put together reasonable multiple processor systems? Are all
SBCs equal in this respect, or is there some board that would make system
integration less troublesome than the others? What should I look out for?
How about ethernet controllers?

Thanks in advance for all advice and opinions given,
Scott
