[comp.realtime] CALL FOR DISCUSSION: comp.std.tron

jdm@a.cs.wvu.wvnet.edu (James D Mooney) (07/18/89)

This is a CALL FOR DISCUSSION for creation of a newsgroup to discuss
issues relating to the TRON project. The proposed name for the
group is "comp.std.tron."

Since my initial request about 30 days ago, over 60 news articles
related to TRON have been posted. This seems to indicate an interest
in discussing this topic. TRON issues bear on several topics that
have existing newsgroups, including networks, architecture, operating
systems, realtime systems, and standards. However, there is no
group suitable for a continuing discussion of TRON as a unified topic.

TRON is somewhat hard to classify, but its essential goal is to
produce a collection of standards. Thus the proposed group is
a subgroup of "comp.std."

I propose that the new group be UNMODERATED. It's suggested charter
would include:

	- Technical discussion of the various TRON subprojects
(BTRON, ITRON, CTRON, TRON CPU, etc.)

	- Issues concerning TRON as a set of standards, and its
	     relation with other standards

	- Implications of the TRON project as a whole or in part,
	     including economic, cultural, political, etc.

Other related topics could be added to this list. However, this
should not be the place for extended flames about Japanese projects
vs. work in other countries.

This discussion should take place in news.groups *ONLY*. It will
continue until Monday, August 14th. On that date a Call for Votes
will be posted.
