The last Citroens imported to the U. S. were the 1973 models. The Environmental Protection Agency emission standards were not responsible for non-availability of later models -- the culprit is the DOT (Department of Transportation). Starting with model year 1974, there were DOT standards for bumpers. These standards included the 5 mph crash test, and a standard height (above the road surface) for automobile bumpers. Citroen, with their hydraulic suspension, had a very variable height and hence counld not meet the bumper height requirements. An ex Citroen owner L. R. DuBroff BTL -- Naperville, Illinois
