Sorry, for posting this to all of the net, couldn't reach the person that asked. The following is blatantly commercial (so skip over if ...) ,but some people don't know. FlexOS PRODUCT DESCRIPTION FlexOS is a family of operating systems designed for use on Intel 186, 286, 386, 68K and V60 microprocessors. Features common to all implementations of FlexOS include: - preemptive, event driven dispatcher - modular architecture - individual resource managers governing access to disks, character and graphics consoles, - Device independent core system with all device dependencies isolated to dynamically loadable device drivers - Multitasking; FlexOS 286 and FlexOS 386 versions also feature use of the microprocessor's protected mode feature to isolate processes from eachother and the system. FlexOS provides users with deterministic response to external events on standard PCs. This lets them reduce their total system cost by using off-the-shelf computers for real-time applications. Other advantages of FlexOS that reduce the developer's time to market, help reduce the end user's overall cost of ownership, and leverage development across multiple platforms include: - DOS media compatibility - interprocess communication with pipes and shared memory - multiuser support with user, group, and world file access security - UNIX like programming environment with broad POSIX function support - integrated graphics supporting VGA, EGA, and Hercules adaptors - integrated networking with token ring, ARCNET, and TCP/IP transport support - self-hosted development on standard PCs, including source level debuggers Developer kits provide all the tools and system components necessary to write applications or build customer implementations of the system. Compilers, database management systems, and other tools are also available through third party vendors. -- [replace with your own cute .signature] amdahl!drivax!riddle
