I have been considering the purchase of a Porsche 944 and finally got the chance to test drive one the other day. I was very impressed. It was by far the best handling car I have ever driven. The most amazing thing, to me, was the smoothness of the in-line four cylinder engine. But you've read all this in the magazines. The question I have concerns an ad in the May Road and Track page 147 for a turbocharger with intercooler for the 944 engine from Callaway Turbosystems. I'm going to send in the three bucks for their literature, but does anyone have any knowledge of this company's products? There is rumored to be a factory 944 turbo due for release in mid '84. According to Car and Driver the prototypes are running with enough boost to give 270 bhp but the commercial version will turn it down to 220 or so to prolong engine life. Should I buy a 944+Callaway or buy a condo and wait till next year? To Hell with common sense, Dave Emberson megatest!dre
