Kahaner Re: Japan Info Proc Soc Meeting 4-6 Sept 1990. Date: 16 Oct 1990 ABSTRACT. We present titles and authors of papers from the Information Processing Society of Japan semiannual meeting, 4-6 September, 1990. The proceedings of this meeting were published in six volumes. While almost all the papers were in Japanese, English titles were printed at the bottom of each paper. To prepare the list below we were obliged to key enter the titles by hand, a tedious task. Consequently, we decided to only input titles of those sessions that seemed to us particularly relevant to needs and interests in scientific computing, computer science, had some other special significance, and had not been reported on before. In many cases the were a few particularly interesting papers in a session; to make the data entry process easier we incuded the entire session. The general table of contents of the meeting is given below. Sections whose titles we have omitted are so noted. Each paper has a code number. If you need to contact me about any of these papers please refer to these codes. We also made a simple statistical analysis of the papers' origin. The approximate results are as follows. The numbers are heavily slanted toward industrial research papers. It might be that university researchers prefer to present their work at more specialized meetings, but industrial research is very strong in Japan. Papers presented by industrial researchers: 69% Papers presented by university researchers: 26% Papers presented by government researchers: 2% Joint industrial-university papers: 4% Joint industrial-government papers: 0.1% Joint university-government papers: 0 Joint university-industrial-government papers: 0 PROCEEDINGS OF INFORMATION PROCESSING SOCIETY OF JAPAN September 4 - September 6, 1990 Tohoku University Prepared by Office of Naval Research Liaison Office, Far East Dr. David K.
