We need to have about 2 Megabytes of persistent (but occasionally updateable) memory in a VME bus system, without spending a fortune to obtain it. I'd like to call on the expertise out there for some advice. These are the methods we have been considering: 1) Battery-backed-up SRAM. This is our preferred option, but quotes obtained so far indicate that VME SRAM boards are too expensive (over $6000 CDN for 2MB). Anyone know of inexpensive SRAM boards with battery backup? 2) EEPROM boards. These have the drawback that memory writes are slow and must be used sparingly. Also seem to be expensive. 3) SCSI disk. A small, cheap SCSI disk would do the trick. Are there inexpensive VME SCSI controller boards, or is it wisest to select a CPU with a controller on it? Any advice on any of the three options above would be greatly appreciated.
