In some weeks I will leave for Central America to do a census of fecundity of sebifera (Myristicaceae). As is often the case, my budget is limited, and I am having problems acquiring the materials needed to construct the seed-traps. I plan to build these square traps with four "legs" (each leg will be a two faced aluminum angle, 1" to the side and 1/16" thick with two holes drilled into each side to accomodate the dowels that will constitute the sides of the square). The legs will be connected with four 3 foot wooden dowels. Over this framework I will hang a nylon screening which will trap the seeds. My questions are the following: has anyone built similar traps? If so, where did you buy your materials, what were the prices? Can anyone suggest alternate constructions that will be equally good seed traps? (the only criterion is that they be cheap and that I can construct 500 of them without too much trouble, i.e.they need be fairly simple to construct.) Please let me know as soon as possible. Preferrably answer by e-mail. My bitnet adress is MYDEDIJE@PUCC. Thank you, MIKI
