[net.auto] wheel lugnut torque

wookie@alice.UUCP (06/09/83)

The notes on the warping of brake rotors is a valuable bit of information.
I first saw this in a Buick service bulletin in the early seventies which
stated that warped rotors where in part caused by improper torquing of the
lugnuts either by greatly overtightening them with an impact wrench or
by not tightening them evenly. On the cars I care about (my Sunbeam Tiger
and Trans-Am) I always use a TORQUE WRENCH ONLY!!!! and tighten the nuts
to the specifications given by the manufacturer. It is most important
to at least have the nuts all at the same torque and be off in the
actual value if it is unknown.
