[net.auto] Radar Detectors, Speeding, and Red Lights

ijk@hou5e.UUCP (06/10/83)

A few thoughts on speeding and radar detectors:
I admit that I seldom drive at exactly the speed limit myself,
but I'm not sure that voting with your foot is the solution ( I was
surprised to see one of the major car magazines advocate this). A
flagrant disrespect for the law can be poisonous (The decline of
our civilization????). The prime example is New York City, where
a red light is often disobeyed. Should people be allowed to
disobey this law, just because they don't believe in it???
Usually, I don't believe in enforcing such laws (i.e, those that the
population doesn't believe in), based on the Prohibition experience,
but where is the end?? Certain laws have to be enforced, or we
go the way of the Romans.

VOTE with your pen and ballot, not your foot.
