Newsgroup : comp.compression Charter : Discussions about data compression. Status : Unmoderated. The voting period for the comp.compression proposal went from 20-Feb-1991 to 15-Mar-1991. A list of everyone that voted and how they voted is given below. The votes were counted using: #!/bin/csh wc votes_normalized grep FOR votes_normalized | wc grep AGAINST votes_normalized | wc which yielded 426 votes received, 406 FOR and 20 AGAINST. This means that the vote satisfies the two criteria for a successful vote, namely that there must be at least 100 YES votes and that at least 2/3 of the vote be in favour of creation. The process will now enter a five day waiting period during which "the net will have a chance to correct any errors in the voter list or the voting procedure". If the result still stands, the group will be created on about 22-Mar-1991. Thanks to everyone who voted, Ross Williams ross@spam.ua.oz.au Notes: 1. The votes were compiled manually. I may have made some mistakes. 2. Some people sent in votes for sci.compression. I ignored them. (I suppose I should have replied to them but I didn't - sorry). 3. I couldn't think of the unix command to eliminate duplicate lines so I scanned the list myself. I may have missed a duplicate. 4. So many FOR votes came in that when compiling them into the list below, I got into an editing rhythm. If your AGAINST vote has magically changed into a FOR vote, post a note to the net to correct it, but please don't get on your high horse as it was all done manually (I would have automated it if, at the start, I thought I was going to get this many votes). 5. I am unsure of what voters are actually supposed to do if they find that their vote is wrong - the rules don't say. Presumably, mailing complaints to me (the vote taker) would be silly as, if I have rigged the votes, I would ignore your message and the net would never know. So, I suppose, if you have a problem, post it to news.groups for everyone to see. I will watch news.groups. 6. If your vote is correct but your email address or name has an error in it, mail the correction to me (ross@spam.ua.oz.au).
