I don't intend to belabor the point, but in almost all cases the use of radar detectors is to defeat law enforcement of the speed limits. I therefore believe any one using a radar detector to be a law breaker. I would be interested iin hearing about any truly useful purpose one may give to have one in the car. If the driver is not aware of the vehicles speed, that person should not be driving. Signed Better Than Most hound!rwhw

Boy, for a person not wanting to belabor the point, you are surely belaboring it "better than most"! Some people like to drive sports cars that policemen just love to pull over for going 1 MPH over the speed limit! If a radar detector can help me avoid that, I'm all for it!! Sign me, Just another law breaker

I for one regard being given the opportunity to drive at a reasonable speed on the freeway without fear of involuntarily enriching both the state and my insurance company to be a "truly useful purpose." I also tend to get annoyed at reading two notes from one person in one day calling me a lawbreaker. I knew that when I got the radar detector. -Joe P.

Hurrah for Andy! I speed, violently so - but not in traffic and never when there are bad driving conditions (i.e. rain). I see no reason why I can't drive down highway 52 (which has virtually no traffic, ever) at 100 mph at 4 in the morning! And I don't drink before I drive, either. Speeders unite! arwen

I heard of some court cases disputing this law, but the state must have won. What is the legal status of radar detectors? I go back to my Virginia home several times a year. Their logic is that since radar detectors are effective at greater-than-line-of-sight distances, a radar equipped patrol car can effectively slow down a much larger area if he is depending on being seen. They further reason that since the primary purpose of a patrol car is to promote safe driving, not catch speeders, it is to their advantage for all individuals to own and use a radar detector.
