[comp.sys.isis] Several positions opening up with our group

ken@gvax.cs.cornell.edu (Ken Birman) (10/25/90)

The ISIS and Meta Projects expect to have several positions open up during
the next few months. These span a range from programmer/support
positions to Ph.D. research openings. At this time, we are interested
in establishing contacts with individuals who might have an interest in
joining our activity, in early 1991 or beyond.

The projects all involve applications of the ISIS and Meta technologies
or extensions of these systems to achieve very high performance or
meet realtime guarantees. We should probably note that although the
Cornell CS Department has several faculty positions open, the ISIS and
Meta efforts are both close-knit groups. We are looking for people who
would like to work with us on problems of importance to the two projects
in a variety of real settings.

These positions would require experience with some subset of: UNIX, Mach,
Chorus, ISIS, distributed computing and protocol development. We tend
to look for do-ers: people who like to see their ideas implemented.
Needless to say, our effort is an equal opportunity one. Foreign
applicants are welcome.

Ithaca is located in a rural area of Northern New York State. The
region is extremely attractive, filled with gorges and hiking trails,
and with easy access to swimming areas in the summer and skiing (both
downhill and cross-country) in the winter. The town itself is quiet
but surprisingly cosmopolitan, with a large number of movie theaters,
several concert series, plays, etc. Real estate prices are very modest,
and a 15-minute commute to work is considered long.
