[net.auto] Mustang GT

If you are looking at buying a Datsun 280zx, Maxda Rx7, Toyota Supra,
or some other sporty car I suggest you should take a close look
at the Ford Mustang GT 5speed. I looked at all of the above and
bought the Mustang GT. It was by far the best buy. There is no way the
others have as much power as the mustang does and their cornering
ability is not that much better. There is just no substitute for
a V8 when it comes to low-end torque. True the others may handle
a little better but the mustang is no slouch either! Also I worry
about a fuel injected or turbo charged cars long term reliability.
It had been so long since I had a V8 that I had forgotten about
Low end torque and broad power bands and smooth idle. Try taking
any of the others and accelerating in top gear from 15 mph and
see what happens.

The new Car & Driver has comparison between the new Z28 and the GT.
The Z28 now is available with a 190 hp 305. This gives it a slight
edge in the power to weight ratio. They also mention a knock sensor
that can give you an extra ten hp increase if you use a high grade unleaded.

The numbers of the test are as follows:

		Mustang GT Camero Z28

1/4 mile 15.4 @ 90 15.0 @ 93

skidpad .76 g .83 g

The Camero also had a .3 sec edge in the 0-60 time.

Considering the Mustang is a continuation of design
released in the 1977 model year, it didn't do too bad.
The testers liked the Z28 mainly for its handling advantages.

I am looking forward to a redesign by Ford with more
emphasis on aerodynamics.
