K. Bhat asked about programs to "draw" (I take it that means to estimate) the phylogeny of a group of sequences from primary sequence data. My free program package PHYLIP is available (version 3.2 with 3.3 to come soon) in Pascal and also in DOS executables. I have sent distribution information to Bhat directly as it has already appeared here. However I do not have an alignment program in PHYLIP. People with this sort of data may also want to try out Jotun Hein's new program TreeAlign which is available in the EMBL and Houston software servers. It aligns and makes trees at the same time. However it is too big to run under DOS. There are other programs as well but these come to mind ;-) Joe Felsenstein Dept. of Genetics, Univ. of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195 Internet/ARPANet: joe@genetics.washington.edu (IP No. 128.208.128.1) BITNET/EARN: FELSENST@UWALOCKE UUCP: ... uw-beaver!uw-entropy!uw-evolution!joe
