I would have to agree with others that the Mustang is not the best performer on 4 wheels. The car suffers from being too light and has the infamous Mustang rear-axle hop. The axle hop has been solved in the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with an extra set of shocks in a horizontal position behind the rear axle. I have read great things about the T-bird Turbo's performance but it still doesn't come off as a great sports car. (at least to me). I'd have to agree with Car&Driver and give the new HO 5 liter Camaro the nod as the best US GT car. It is now faster than the Mustang and handles beautifully My girlfriend needed a new car so I took advantage of the situation and drove both cars in a same day comparison. The Mustang was nice, but the Camaro was so flat around corners I couldn't believe it. The car has excellent balance and as far as creature comforts go, the Camaro has a nicer and quieter interior. It doesn't have that tacky Mustang dash. The dual pointer speedo is annoying, I'll admit. I am glad the new Camaro is a hatchback. The old F-car had a useless trunk. My friend at GM recently transferred to the Corvette division. He is bringing a new Vette to our next college reunion in July. I'll let you know how a great car handles then.
