ACK!! Here we go again! The first thing I though of when I heard the the "Supremes" struck down the deletion of the airbag/autoseatbelt rule, was that this newsgroup would, once again, be a-flame with airbag noise. So, not to be holier than thou, here's my noise. Most experts agree than for maximum effectiveness, lap belt need to be worn with airbags. The dunderheaded car-aimers that don't buckle up now won't bother with there shiny new $900.00 airbags! So what will we gain? If we insist that these doughheads buckle up so their airbags will be fully effective, why don't spend the effort to have them buckle up their lap/shoulder harness? The reliability of existing restraint system, when used, is beyond reproach. I have yet to see what I, an unfailing user of lap and shoulder harness that exist today, will gain from an idiot balloon in my steering wheel, other than a substantial dent in my pocketbook. In Michigan, my former home, they broadcast the weekend carnage on the highways. Recently they have been announcing the number of belt wearing fatalities and the number of total deaths. Those data OUGHT to convince non-wearers. I figure that non-bucklers are, with each death and maiming, cleansing the gene pool! Happy Driving, and buckle up! (that includes you, backseat passengers!)
