[net.auto] airbags and seatbelts

As I understand it, an airbag is supposed to be effective
only when used in conjuction with a lap belt.
So I assume that cars equipped with airbags will still
come with lap belts, although not with the three-point
lap and shoulder belts.

I'm on the anti-airbag side of this argument.
I've been wearing my belt since drivers' ed class in
high school. I'm glad I got in the habit.
It saved me from spending a couple days in the
hospital last March when a stinking drunk rammed
by VW Beetle from behind.
Since the crash was a rear-ender, I doubt that the
airbag would have done much! But the seatbelt
kept me from sliding up, back and into the rear window.

Friends who heard about my accident said I was *lucky*
that I was wearing my seatbelt. To which I responded --
No, I wasn't lucky -- I wear it all the time.

Give me belts -- they work, and they're cheap.
As for you, do what you want with your own health and life.
(BTW, I have converted at least two people to seatbelt
users since my crash)
